Hello and welcome! My name is Gretchen and I am the author of Stitches and Thyme. I created this blog to share my ideas about thrifty lifestyle solutions that reflect my passions. I love to up-cycle and re-style fabrics with simple sewing techniques and creative DIY projects that save money and the planet!
After a long career as a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist in private practice, I “semi-retired” a year ago to pursue my other interests. Sewing and DIY projects have always been favorite hobbies. My love for sewing started when I was only 10 years old, when I earned my “Sewing Badge” in Girl Scouts. What started off as a hobby truly has blossomed into a way to share my passion for sewing with the world.
Most of my sewn creations or DIY projects were once a discarded material, perhaps a pair of vintage jeans or even an old t-shirt! I can see the true beauty in an item that has been tossed to the side, because I know the potential of what the materials hold. My goal is to reduce, reuse and recycle in order to protect our planet.
When I’m not sewing or working on a new DIY project, you’ll find me working as a freelance Dietitian-Nutritionist. I love helping others and this rewarding profession has allowed me to share with them the power of healthy eating. In my free time, I love to garden, cook and of course, sew!
While I have devoted this blog to my sewing, DIY, and thrifty lifestyle solutions, my other websites might be good places to visit for nutrition related topics and nutrition books I have written. You can find more about these topics here:
I hope to use this blog to educate and inform others about reducing, recycling, and up-cycling through sewing, saving, and living a thrifty, but terrific life!
